Basketball Recap: Portage Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Britton Myher and Kendall Bednarski

Portage was the 56-45 winner over Bellwood-Antis when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Portage Mustangs took a hard 69-50 fall against the Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils on Wednesday.

Kendall Bednarski and Britton Myher certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Bednarski posted 17 points in addition to six boards and four steals, while Myher earned 15 points. Bednarski has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Ava Offman also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Portage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Bellwood-Antis was led to victory by Lilly Gerwert and Jenna Norton. Gerwert dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Norton dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Norton has posted since back in December of 2024. Leigha Clapper was another key player, going 5-for-11 on her way to 15 points and six assists.

Portage's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Bellwood-Antis, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-11.

Portage does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bellwood-Antis, they will head out on the road to square off against Bishop McCort at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Bellwood-Antis has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 180 points over their last three games.
