Basketball Preview: Johnsonburg Rams vs. Smethport Hubbers

After four games on the road, Johnsonburg is heading back home. They will take on the Smethport Hubbers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Wednesday, Johnsonburg took a serious blow against the Cardinals, falling 52-20. While losing is never fun, Johnsonburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 506th, while the Cardinals are ranked 165th).

Meanwhile, Smethport came up short against the Panthers on Friday and fell 47-34. Smethport has struggled against the Panthers recently, as their contest on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite their loss, Smethport saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Elizabeth Hungiville, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Hungiville is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Goodman, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.

Johnsonburg's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-9. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Smethport, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

Johnsonburg came up short against the Hubbers in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 56-51. Will Johnsonburg have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
