Baseball Recap: Elbert County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Athens Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elbert County). They blew past the Athens Academy Spartans 14-4 on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Elbert County got a great performance from Haven Adams as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Adams has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Sam Amabile was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Cheyvis McClendon was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Elbert County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. Athens Academy's record is now 4-4.

Elbert County will have a chance to go back-to-back against Athens Academy: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
