Softball Game Preview: Platte Valley Broncos vs. Eaton Reds

Platte Valley hasn't had much luck against Eaton recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Broncos will challenge the Reds at 11:00 a.m. Platte Valley has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Platte Valley lost 15-4 to Resurrection Christian on Thursday.

Landree Edstrom stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

Meanwhile, Eaton faced University in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Reds fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 8-7.

Bria Foster put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Foster was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Johanna Galvan and Emma Anderson did some serious damage despite the final result: Galvan went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Anderson went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases and two runs. Paige Hofer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Platte Valley's record is now 10-10. As for Eaton, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-4.

Platte Valley might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Eaton when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
