Football Recap: Douglas Byrd Comes Up Short

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Thursday. Douglas Byrd fell 29-22 to Western Harnett. The match was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but Douglas Byrd couldn't quite close it out.

Western Harnett found their leader in sophomore Creig Matthews, who rushed for 109 yards and a pair of TDs, and also caught one touchdown.

Douglas Byrd dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Western Harnett, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Douglas Byrd will challenge Purnell Swett at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Western Harnett, they will square off against Cedar Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
