Basketball Game Preview: Petaluma Trojans vs. American Canyon Wolves

Petaluma is 2-8 against American Canyon since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Petaluma Trojans will be playing at home against the American Canyon Wolves at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, Petaluma took a blow against Pinole Valley, falling 57-23. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 799th, while the Spartans are ranked 225th).

Meanwhile, American Canyon entered their tilt with Sonoma Valley on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Dragons by a score of 47-39.

Petaluma better keep an eye on Jordan Woodson. She was instrumental in American Canyon's win, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Woodson has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ysabelle Locquiao, who posted 12 points.

American Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matchups.

American Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Petaluma, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-15.

Petaluma took a serious blow against American Canyon when the teams last played back in January, falling 73-25. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Woodson, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.
