Recap: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. Westmont Warriors
The Newark Memorial Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 31-19 loss to Westmont. Newark Memorial was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Westmont apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Newark Memorial's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Angelina Baca, who scored eight points, and Sydney Scott who scored six points. Scott scored a full 31.6% of Newark Memorial's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Newark Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Westmont, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newark Memorial will face off against Irvington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Irvington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Newark Memorial in California (Irvington is ranked 267th, while Newark Memorial is ranked 788th). As for Westmont, they will head out on the road to face off against Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
