Football Recap: Winder-Barrow Comes Up Short

If Winder-Barrow was riding high fresh off their 49-8 takedown of Loganville two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bulldoggs took a blow against the Jackson County Panthers on Friday, falling 57-13. The Bulldoggs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-7.

Winder-Barrow lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Westley Booth, who threw for 186 yards and a pair of touchdowns. A healthy portion of that aerial production (123 yards to be exact) went to Grayson Engel, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Jackson County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daylan Maxwell led the charge by rushing for 224 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.8 yards per carry, and also picking up 44 receiving yards. Maxwell was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Jayson Lee was another major influence, as he rushed for 125 yards and ran in a TD.

Winder-Barrow now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Jackson County, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Winder-Barrow will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Clarke Central at 7:30 p.m. on the 30th. As for Jackson County, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 45-8 victory against Loganville on the 24th.
