Softball Recap: St. Joseph's Academy's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

St. Joseph's Academy was handed a 14-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Kirkwood Pioneers, sneaking past 5-3. That's more bragging rights for the Angels, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Julie Origliasso spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Kennedy Byrne was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: St. Joseph's Academy lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

St. Joseph's Academy's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10. As for Kirkwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Joseph's Academy will take on Oakville at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Kirkwood, they will face off against Mehlville at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.78 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
