Football Game Preview: Newton Railroaders vs. Salina Central Mustangs + How To Watch

The Newton Railroaders will face off against the Salina Central Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton has given up an average of 36.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Newton ended up a good deal behind Goddard and lost 36-17.

Meanwhile, Salina Central put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging a 49-20 win over Eisenhower. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 29 points or more this season.

Salina Central's win came from a few key players Newton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Griffin Hall, who threw for 267 yards and four TDs while completing 76.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 78 yards on only eight carries. Those 267 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Cooper Reves was another key player, rushing for 236 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.8 yards per carry.

Salina Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 337 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 159 rushing yards in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Salina Central, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.

Newton was taken down by Salina Central 57-7 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Reves, who rushed for 191 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries.
