Football Recap: Cypress Takes a Loss

Cypress was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 34-27 to the Western Pioneers. The Centurions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Pioneers from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Although Cypress took the loss, they still got scores from Xavier Guerrero, Bryson Busbee, and Alijah Ashcraft.

Chance Thomas continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Western, throwing for 221 yards and a pair of TDs, while also punching in one score on the ground. Thomas' passing game has become a key predictor of the Pioneers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise.

Cypress' loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Western, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-3.

Coming up, Cypress will take on Trabuco Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Centurions will be up against the Mustangs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.75 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Western, they will face off against Tustin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tillers will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
