Irwin County extended their winning streak to 20 on Monday, bumping them up to 22-2. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Berrien Rebels. Surprisingly, this marked the Indians' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Brooklyn Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brynlee Brown, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Alberson, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Irwin County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in four consecutive contests.
As for Berrien, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-18. Surprisingly, this marked their fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
On Berrien's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: C Hale gave up three earned runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Berrien saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was G McMillan, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Irwin County has already played their next game, a 6-2 victory against Marion County on the 13th. As for Berrien, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 7-1 defeat against Clinch County on the 8th.
