Basketball Recap: Valhalla's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Valhalla came into Tuesday's match having lost 11 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 42-37 W over the Mount Miguel Matadors on Tuesday. For the Norsemen, this counts as revenge for the 103-10 victory the Matadors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2021.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valhalla to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chanel Akka, who went 9 of 17 on her way to 21 points along with five boards and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Songoli EkwoSi, who posted no points in addition to 19 rebounds and seven steals.

Valhalla was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Mount Miguel's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laylah Castro, who had 13 points. That was a full 35.1% of Mount Miguel's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Rihana Broughton was another key player, putting up nine points.

Valhalla's win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-10. As for Mount Miguel, their loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-16.

Valhalla wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-35 defeat against Santana on the 17th. As for Mount Miguel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-29 victory against Monte Vista on the 17th.
