Baseball Recap: Marion-Franklin Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Marion-Franklin ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the South Bulldogs. The victory continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Marvin RJ Robinson made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Marion-Franklin is 3-1 when Robinson allows two or fewer hits, but 2-8-1 otherwise. Robinson was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Chris Lucero tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Maxin Warner, who went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Marion-Franklin: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-7-1 otherwise.

Marion-Franklin's win bumped their record up to 5-9-1. As for South, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

As of now, neither Marion-Franklin nor South have any future games scheduled.
