Football Recap: Atchison County Takes a Loss

Atchison County and Osage City squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Atchison County had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Indians 60-7. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Indians are ranked 14th).

Osage City's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reed Silver, who threw for 138 yards and three touchdowns on perfect 8-for-8 passing, and also punched in one score on the ground. Silver didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass. Dylan Theel was another key player, gaining 99 total yards and three touchdowns.

Atchison County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Osage City, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1.

Atchison County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Osage City, they will take on Caney Valley on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Indians 10.4, the Bullpups 13.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
