Basketball Recap: Tessa Powers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bergan Catholic over Bancroft-Rosalie

Bergan Catholic was the 43-30 winner over Bancroft-Rosalie when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Knights fell 51-42 to the Panthers on Saturday. While the Knights didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 13-6 in the first quarter.

Bergan Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tessa Powers, who went 5-for-10 en route to 14 points and five steals. Powers is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Reagan Cansler was another key player, shooting 56% from the field on her way to 13 points.

Bailey Murphy was a one-woman wrecking crew For Bancroft-Rosalie. as she went 6-for-11 to rack up 20 points in addition to five boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Beaudette, who posted eight points and six steals.

Bergan Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Bancroft-Rosalie, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Bergan Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 62-34 victory against Roncalli Catholic on the 9th. As for Bancroft-Rosalie, they have also already played their next game, a 67-55 loss against Omaha Nation on the 9th.
