Football Recap: Albuquerque Falls Short Against Ranked Sandia

Albuquerque faced Sandia in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Bulldogs lost 38-14 to the Matadors. The defeat continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Matadors: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Albuquerque still got an impressive performance from Alberto Landeros, who rushed for 84 yards and one TD.

Albuquerque didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of James Montano and Raul Betancourt.

Jahleel Lewis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sandia, rushing for 54 yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for 219 yards on 21 of 34 attempts. A healthy portion of Lewis' aerial production (107 yards to be exact) went to Trey Foderaro.

Albuquerque's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Sandia, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season.

Albuquerque wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 51-3 defeat against La Cueva on the 1st. As for Sandia, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 57-7 loss against Los Lunas on the 1st.
