Recap: Helix Highlanders vs. Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots
In what's become a running theme this season, the Helix Highlanders gave their fans yet another huge win on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Academy of Our Lady of Peace 60-25 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Helix has posted since December 21, 2023.
Helix's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Valerie Marquez, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 24 rebounds. Marquez continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Lindsey, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Academy of Our Lady of Peace's loss came despite strong showings from Caroline O'neal and Alex Morland-tellez. O'neal scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Morland-tellez scored three points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Academy of Our Lady of Peace struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Helix posted 11 assists.
Helix has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Helix's road trip will continue as they head out to face Monte Vista at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th. Monte Vista will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 736th, while Helix is ranked 310th). As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Scripps Ranch at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Scripps Ranch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday.
