Softball Recap: Waverly Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hastings

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waverly). They put the hurt on the Hastings Tigers with a sharp 16-6 win on Thursday. This was payback for the Vikings, who suffered a 12-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Tenley Peery was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and one double while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Glassburner, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Waverly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 10-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Waverly and bumps their season record up to 17-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Hastings, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-8.

Coming up, Waverly will venture away from home to take on Bennington at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vikings are facing the Badgers at the right time seeing as the Badgers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Hastings, they will host Grand Island Central Catholic on Monday.
