Basketball Recap: North Central Takes a Loss

If North Central was riding high fresh off their 48-25 takedown of Neligh-Oakdale last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The North Central Knights took a blow against the Pender Pendragons on Friday, falling 74-26. The Knights were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-12.

Despite the defeat, North Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mya Lewis posted ten points.

Pender's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maya Dolliver, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 14 points and five assists. Dolliver is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hadley Walsh, who went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points and three steals.

The loss snapped North Central's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 14-12 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points over those games. As for Pender, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 25-2.

North Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pender, they will face off against Howells-Dodge at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Pender is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.
