Basketball Recap: Cristo Rey Saints vs. Valley Christian Lions
The Cristo Rey Saints lost against the Valley Christian Lions back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Cristo Rey took a serious blow against the Lions, falling 57-28. While losing is never fun, Cristo Rey can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1097th, while the Lions are ranked 376th).
Valley Christian found their leader in underclassman Janet Donkor, who scored 30 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Donkor has scored all season.
Cristo Rey has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Valley Christian, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cristo Rey will face off against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Faith Christian is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Valley Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against the Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sacramento Country Day comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last 12 games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
