Varnum came tearing into Saturday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Stratford Bulldogs a 3-0 shutout. While the Whippets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-25), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Varnum's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Stratford, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Varnum has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against McLoud on the 23rd. As for Stratford, they will venture away from home to square off against Allen at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
