Softball Recap: Pius X Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Pius X ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wayne Blue Devils, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Thunderbolts have posted since September 28, 2024.

Adee Duggan made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Libby Preister, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Katherine Hoefener was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Pius X and bumps their season record up to 12-14. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Wayne, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-9.

Pius X wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-4 defeat against Gretna on the 2nd. As for Wayne, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Guardian Angels Central Catholic on the 2nd.
