Football Recap: Chesapeake Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Chesapeake and Dunbar squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Chesapeake had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Poets, falling 68-0. While losing is never fun, the Bay Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland football rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Poets are ranked 26th).

Chesapeake didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jayden Garcia and Ryan Morales. Garcia has been hot recently, having also posted six or more total tackles the last three times he's played.

Dunbar's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaiyon Newton led the charge by rushing for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Those 133 rushing yards gave Newton a new career-high. Jayvon Burrus was in the mix too, providing Dunbar with two TDs.

Chesapeake has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Dunbar, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Chesapeake does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dunbar, they will be playing at home against Queen Anne's County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Poets will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least 31 points in their last seven matchups.
