League recap: St. Peter scores huge upset over Fairmont

The biggest upset of the week belonged to St. Peter, who took down 95th ranked Fairmont, 28-20.

Chris Mulder and Isaiah Johnson provided fans with a highlight when they connected against St. James. The connection went for 88 yards, the longest such play in South Central this season.

New Ulm's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mulder threw for 237 and two touchdowns and Johnson had 100 yards receiving. On the ground Jackson Yackley chipped in 53 yards. Mackenzie Vogel helped New Ulm's passing attack out by catching three balls for 39 yards.

New Ulm's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Mulder has thrown for 659 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Johnson has 15 catches for 234 yards. Yackley leads the league in rushing with 341 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place St. Peter takes on second place Blue Earth. Last week, the Saints defeated the Cardinals, while Blue Earth topped Waseca.

St. Peter moved up to 91 from 118 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in South Central. A 28-20 win over Mat Mahoney's team helped the Saints improve their standing.
