Two dominant signal callers in Jamie Spurgeon and Deagan Rose are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Clovis East Timberwolves will be playing at home against the Clovis Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Clovis East is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Central East on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Timberwolves were dealt a 50-20 defeat at the hands of the Bengals. The Timberwolves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-14.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Lindsey Graves, who rushed for 69 yards on only nine carries, and also picked up 49 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Clovis had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They really took it to the Broncos for the full four quarters, racking up a 45-7 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 25 points or more this season.
Clovis East better focus on containing James Curoso and Carlos Young as the pair were huge in Clovis' win. Curoso rushed for 191 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, while Young picked up 107 receiving yards and three TDs. With that strong performance, Curoso is now averaging an impressive 100.6 rushing yards per game. Clovis also got help from Israel Briggs, who showed off his sure hands for 83 receiving yards.
Clovis was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 200 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Clovis didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Young. Another thorn in Clovis North's side was Lolomanaia Clark, who picked up 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble, and made 14 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Clovis East's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Clovis, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Everything came up roses for Clovis East against Clovis in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 47-13 victory. In that game, the Timberwolves amassed a halftime lead of 40-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
