Football Recap: Rio Mesa Spartans vs. Newbury Park Panthers        
        
		
             After soaring to 34  points the game before, Rio Mesa was a bit more limited  in their  game  on Friday. They took a  blow against the Newbury Park Panthers, falling  41-2. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at  31-0.
  JJ Bittner threw for 79 yards  on seven of 19 attempts.  
 Isaiah Bautista was his top target, rushing for 46 yards.  On the ground, 
 Terrance Morrow rushed for 77 yards.
  Brady Smigiel was  his usual excellent self, throwing for 185 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes for Newbury Park. Smigiel has been hot , having  posted three or more  passing touchdowns the last eight times he's  played.  Kayin Booker helped  Smigiel out on the ground, rushing for 56 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, while also catching a touchdown.
 This is the second loss in a row for Rio Mesa and  nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Newbury Park, the  victory for them keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
 Rio Mesa didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  matchup,  a  21-18  win against Ventura on the 8th. As for Newbury Park, they also  wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next  match,  a  27-0  victory against San Jacinto on the 8th.
