Preview: Santa Margarita Eagles vs. Oceanside Pirates
The Santa Margarita Eagles are on the road again on Wednesday and play against the Oceanside Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on December 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Santa Margarita is ranked 239th, while Oceanside is ranked 245th).
Last Saturday, Santa Margarita was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 42-38 to Portola.
Meanwhile, Oceanside waltzed into their matchup Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 67-56 victory over Mt. Carmel. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Martina Griffin was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 11 steals. The game was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Aubrey Madden was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Santa Margarita's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Oceanside, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Santa Margarita against Oceanside in their previous matchup back in December of 2014 as the team secured a 76-10 win. With Santa Margarita ahead 42-8 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
