Basketball Recap: Center Comes Up Short

Center played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 59-31 loss at the hands of the Bear River Bruins. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 996th, while the Bruins are ranked 324th).

Despite the loss, Center still got an impressive performance from Reniaya Applin, who went 7 of 13 en route to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and five blocks. Isabella Kossov was another key player, putting up seven points and seven boards.

Center has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which is still a better percentage than their 5-19 record this season. As for Bear River, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Center will square off against Marysville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Marysville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Center likes a good challenge. As for Bear River, they will take on Mira Loma at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Bear River is facing Mira Loma at the right time seeing as Mira Loma is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
