Baseball Recap: University City Victorious

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but University City had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Clairemont Chieftains by a score of 8-5. The Centurions haven't had any issues with the Chieftains recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

AJ Curry made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in 14 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for University City: the team is 7-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-14 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miles Estrella, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jayden Parker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

University City's win bumped their record up to 13-16. As for Clairemont, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 19-10.

Looking ahead, University City is taking a road trip to take on Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Centurions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Clairemont does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
