Mill Valley has gone a perfect 3-0 against Olathe West recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Jaguars will look to defend their home field against the Owls at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Olathe West will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Mill Valley extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Jaguars blew past Shawnee Mission Northwest 56-24. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked second, while the Cougars are ranked 32nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mill Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Blake Jay, who rushed for 129 yards and three scores on only 11 carries, and also threw for 107 yards on only nine passes. Jay's longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another rusher making a difference was Reggie Reece, who rushed for 125 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mill Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 362 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 288 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Olathe West). They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 49-21 win over Gardner-Edgerton. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-14.
Olathe West's win came from a few key players Mill Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brody Hale, who threw for 316 yards and four touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Foland, who gained 179 total yards and three touchdowns.
Mill Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Olathe West, their win bumped their record up to an identical 4-1.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant wideouts against one another: Jay and Sam Krzykowski. Jay just won't slow down this season and has averaged 68.6 passing yards per game. Krzykowski has been a dominant force too and has caught 10 touchdowns while averaging 135 receiving yards per game.
Mill Valley strolled past Olathe West in their previous meeting back in October of 2021 by a score of 47-32. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Owls' Mason McGavran, who rushed for 94 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 199 yards and one TD. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Jaguars to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
