Basketball Recap: Samueli Academy Comes Up Short

Samueli Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 34-28 heartbreaker at the hands of The Webb Schools Gauls. The Firewolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Gauls earlier this season, when they won 26-23.

Leading The Webb Schools to victory were Pristine Thomas and Geniya Parker. Thomas dropped a double-double on 13 points and 24 boards, while Parker dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Parker a new career-high in points. Lauren Gutierrez was another key player, putting up two points and ten rebounds.

Samueli Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for The Webb Schools, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Newport Christian the next time they take the court. The Webb Schools will host Newport Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Samueli Academy will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
