Baseball Recap: Whiting Comes Up Short

If Whiting was riding high fresh off their 11-0 takedown of Gary West Side on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Oilers came up short against the Marquette Catholic Blazers on Monday, falling 8-2. The Oilers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blazers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Whiting saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Madrueno, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Whiting dropped their record down to 4-18 with the loss, which was their ninth straight at home. As for Marquette Catholic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-9.

Coming up, Whiting will square off against Griffith at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.21 runs per game on average), something the Oilers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Marquette Catholic, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Bremen at 5:30 p.m. The Blazers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
