Basketball Recap: Johansen Falls Despite Big Games from Danna Singh and Ameila Medearis

Johansen came up into this matchup off a tough 27-point loss last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Lathrop Spartans by a score of 50-47 on Tuesday. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Johansen's loss came despite strong showings from Ameila Medearis and Danna Singh. Medearis dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards, while Singh posted 16 points and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Medearis a new career-high in blocks (three). Ana Viramontes was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Johansen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Lathrop's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Faith Allen led the charge by scoring 14 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Shakara Porter, who had nine points and six rebounds.

Johansen is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12. As for Lathrop, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-10.

Johansen will face off against Central Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Johansen is facing Central Valley at the right time seeing as Central Valley is stuck on a six-game losing streak. Lathrop has already played their next match (against Livingston), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
