Basketball Recap: Brady Balkcom's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Academy for Classical Education over Pike County

Academy for Classical Education was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 37-32 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pike County Pirates. The matchup marked the Gryphons' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Academy for Classical Education's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Balkcom, who posted nine points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Vincent, who earned five points.

Pike County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Keylan Yates out in front who shot 45% from the field en route to 10 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Nazarious McDowell, who had six points.

Academy for Classical Education's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Pike County, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Academy for Classical Education will head out to challenge Dublin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gryphons will be up against the Fighting Irish's rather soft defense (which has allowed 69.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Pike County, they will be home for the holidays to greet Marion County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
