Berrien took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Fitzgerald, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Berrien Rebels skirted past the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane 5-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Rebels as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Austin Coarsey tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hoss Holbrook, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

Berrien's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-8. As for Fitzgerald, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Fitzgerald beat Berrien by a score of 2-1 on Friday.
