Baseball Recap: Westville Victorious

Westville's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Oregon-Davis Bobcats, sneaking past 9-7. The win continues a trend for the Blackhawks in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won three in a row.

Jackson Pilarski made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Westville got a massive performance out of Seth Stachniak, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The Blackhawks are 3-1 when Stachniak posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ryder Becker, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Westville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oregon-Davis only posted a batting average of .231.

Westville's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Oregon-Davis, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-17.

Coming up, Westville will host South Bend Riley at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.38 runs per game on average), something the Blackhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Oregon-Davis, they will venture away from home to face off against Tri-Township at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
