Football Recap: Daryl Smith and Xavier Paulino Pace Bayonne Defense

Bayonne was the 21-14 winner over Irvington when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bees lost 44-20 to the Blue Knights on Friday. The Bees have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Bayonne still got an impressive performance from Chance Fischer, who rushed for 175 yards and one score while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Jerome Hayes made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Even if they lost, Bayonne's defensive line still kept up the pressure with 5.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Daryl Smith and Xavier Paulino, who racked up four sacks between them. Hayes got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Bayonne's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Irvington, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Coming up, Bayonne will head out on the road to challenge Eastside at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Irvington, they will face off against Columbia at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
