Baseball Game Preview: Rome Wolves vs. Lithia Springs Lions

For the second straight game, Rome will face off against Lithia Springs. The Wolves will head out to face off against the Lions at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday.

Rome headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for seven straight, but Lithia Springs let them put that streak behind them. The Wolves' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wolves as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Wyatt Costlow made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Rome is undefeated when Costlow posts two or more runs, but 2-16 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brett Boden, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Rome's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-16 when he doesn't). Jackson Slatky was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Rome always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Lithia Springs is on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15. As for Rome, their record now sits at 8-16.
