Recap: Cornerstone Christian Cougars vs. California School for the Deaf Eagles
The Cornerstone Christian Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 26 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 61-21 blowout they got on the road against California School for the Deaf. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-7.
Mecca Alexander continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 24 points. The contest was her tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Laila Alexander, who scored 15 points.
Cornerstone Christian's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for California School for the Deaf, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-4.
Cornerstone Christian will head out on the road to face off against Making Waves Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Making Waves Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 967th, while Cornerstone Christian is ranked 145th). California School for the Deaf and Model Secondary School for the Deaf will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
