Softball Recap: Chaparral Has No Trouble Against Thunderridge

Chaparral hadn't done well against ThunderRidge recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Wolverines blew past the Grizzlies 11-2. That's more bragging rights for the Wolverines, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Grace Carpenter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Chaparral let Evie Smith and Scarlett Hum run wild. Smith went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one triple, while Hum got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. That's the most RBI Smith has posted since back in August of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sloane Lukrafka, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.

Chaparral hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ThunderRidge struck out nine times.

Chaparral has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for ThunderRidge, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Chaparral will face off against Ralston Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for ThunderRidge, they will take on Cherokee Trail at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
