Baseball Recap: Brush Takes a Loss

Brush and Pagosa Springs squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Brush had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 5-4. The Beetdiggers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Landon Mesch made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Brush's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 6-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't). Bentley Tallent also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Brush's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Pagosa Springs, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-10.

Brush does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pagosa Springs, they will take on Montezuma-Cortez at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 12 runs per game this season.
