Basketball Game Preview: Mineral Point Pointers vs. Iowa-Grant Panthers

Mineral Point is a perfect 10-0 against Iowa-Grant since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pointers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mineral Point has 17 straight wins, Iowa-Grant has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Mineral Point is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Prairie du Chien: they outscored them in every quarter. The Pointers blew past the Blackhawks 61-38 on Tuesday. Given the Pointers' advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Blackhawks are ranked 341st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mineral Point had a senior duo take command as Madalyn Kabat almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds and Jadyn Schultz went 5-for-10 en route to 15 points. Kabat has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bree Swenson, who posted six points and three steals.

Mineral Point smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Iowa-Grant lost 76-50 to Belmont on Tuesday.

Iowa-Grant's defeat dropped their record down to 4-19. As for Mineral Point, their victory bumped their record up to 19-4.

Mineral Point strolled past Iowa-Grant when the teams last played back in January by a score of 52-38. Will the Pointers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
