Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Salpointe Catholic's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Salpointe Catholic won against Walden Grove last Monday with 55 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Wednesday. The Salpointe Catholic Lancers strolled past the Sahuaro Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 55-38. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Cougars are ranked 53rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Salpointe Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sidney Anderson led the charge by putting up nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Anderson a new career-high in blocks (two). Hannah Williams was another key player, scoring 17 points along with six boards and three steals.

Salpointe Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sahuaro only pulled down nine offensive boards.

Despite the loss, Sahuaro still got an impressive performance from Maggie Boyd, who posted seven points in addition to 13 rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Biale Sika, who put up five points along with eight boards and five blocks.

Salpointe Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Sahuaro, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salpointe Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mica Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Salpointe Catholic is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games. As for Sahuaro, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Walden Grove at 6:00 p.m.
