Baseball Recap: Baldwin Comes Up Short

Baldwin scored first but ultimately less than Northeast in their game on Monday. They took a 19-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-9 back in February.

Rickey Jenks put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring five runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Baldwin's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-14 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Tyler Baugh was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Braylon Wright, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Baldwin's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Northeast, their victory bumped their record up to 8-15.

The future could be bright for both Baldwin and Northeast: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Braves will look to extend West Laurens' three-game losing streak when they meet at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Northeast will try to hand East Laurens their fourth-straight loss when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
