Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Find Success

Mt. Vernon lost to North Knox on Saturday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Warriors.

Klayton Hamilton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. He has become a key player for Mt. Vernon: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Logan Clowers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Easton Hall, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Mt. Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for North Knox, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.

Coming up, Mt. Vernon will head out on the road to take on Evansville Christian at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. As for North Knox, they will take on Linton-Stockton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
