Basketball Recap: Pleasant Grove's Run of Four Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of four wins, Pleasant Grove's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Laguna Creek Cardinals by a score of 53-51. The Eagles lost against the Cardinals in their previous head to head back in December of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-17 score last time.

Pleasant Grove lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Leila Williamson, who went 6 of 8 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Williamson has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Elena Delmundo, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 12 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Pleasant Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Laguna Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ananda Oto-Zachary, who posted 15 points and five rebounds. Trinity Thao was another key player, putting up 19 points and five boards.

Pleasant Grove's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-6. As for Laguna Creek, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Pleasant Grove didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-53 victory against Cosumnes Oaks on the 24th. Laguna Creek has also already played their next matchup, a 79-75 win against Sheldon on the 24th.
