Soccer Game Preview: El Capitan vs. Steele Canyon

El Capitan is 0-4 against Steele Canyon since January of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The El Capitan Vaqueros will head out to face off against the Steele Canyon Cougars at 7:00 p.m.

Last Friday, El Capitan came up short against Granite Hills and fell 4-2. While losing is never fun, the Vaqueros can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 398th, while the Eagles are ranked 74th).

Brooke Hopster and Lia Peterson scored both of El Capitan's goals, bringing their combined season tally to six goals.

Meanwhile, Steele Canyon hadn't done well against West Hills recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Steele Canyon had just enough and edged West Hills out 1-0. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but the Cougars were the better team in the second half.

El Capitan now has a losing record at 7-8-2. As for Steele Canyon, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6-4 record this season.

El Capitan suffered a grim 6-1 defeat to Steele Canyon when the teams last played back in March of 2021. Can El Capitan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
