Baseball Recap: Alexander Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Alexander had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Rome on Monday. Alexander put the hurt on Rome with a sharp 11-1 win. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wolves, too.

Alexander got a great performance from Jayden Whittlesey as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Whittlesey posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Lewachowicz, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Josh Sellers, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Alexander pushed their record up to 6-12 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Rome, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11.

Alexander will have a chance to go back-to-back against Rome: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday.
