Baseball Game Preview: Augusta E Eagles vs. Briarwood Academy Buccaneers

The Augusta E Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Augusta E will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Augusta E is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Augusta Prep Day get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. The Eagles not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 16, 2024.

Augusta E got a massive performance out of Josh Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Jacobsen, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Johnson wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Augusta E kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Briarwood Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Robert Toombs Christian Academy, falling 9-3.

Briarwood Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Tench, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Augusta E now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Briarwood Academy, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Augusta E has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Briarwood Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
